To find out more about Beccles Men's Shed
Events and Activities
We’ve achieved quite a lot in our first year and attended quite a few activities.
What we do:
Turn donated wood and discarded materials into attractive and useful products.
our first events
In May we took our products to RINGSFIELD FETE and a good time was had by all. The weather was brilliant and we met lots of friendly people who appreciated our wares. Goods were sold and orders taken – a thoroughly enjoyable day.
We were delighted to be involved in CHARTER WEEKEND at the end of June when it seemed like half of Beccles stopped to chat. We were part of the Hub outside Hungate Church – another successful day.
In June we were invited to join local artist, Nina Roffey as part of her ‘OPEN STUDIO‘ weekend.
OTHER EVENTS IN 2018
We also attended the Community and Wellbeing Event at Blyburgate Hall.
The sun shone on September 1st at WORLINGHAM FETE and we met lots of people interested in our wares and Shed activities. The lads in the picture said it was ‘hard work’!!
In October they entertained everyone at the LIBRARY CRAFT FAIR.
We were there at the CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON at the end of November and really enjoyed the atmosphere. People liked our hand-made unique gifts and the unusual wooden Christmas trees.
We finally move !
We were fortunate to be granted a lease for a plot of land and given permission to site a container. It took some careful planning and manoeuvring but we are now established in Beccles!
There’s lots to do inside and out to turn it into a fully functioning workshop so this will keep us busy for quite a while.
In the meantime we fulfilled a large order for Sir Joh Leman High School for their new 6th form garden area. We were also contacted by ‘Sense’ the disability charity and designed and made some planters for wheelchair access.
We arrive in Beccles! Our start-up in Henstead was only meant to be temporary… and sixteen months later we made the decision to push forward with the move to Beccles. There was nowhere suitable to rent at an affordable price and renting would not give us long-term...
Thanks for all the Support When we decided to re-locate, to actually be in Beccles, we realised it would be a very costly business and knew we could not undertake this without help and support. We made some applications and have been very fortunate to receive some...
The 6th Form Garden Sir John Leman High School wanted to improve an area for their 6thForm to study outdoors and found the type of garden table set they wanted online…. But…it was way out of their budget. We were delighted to work with them and produce a better...
We create personalised planters! We were approached in February by the charity 'Sense' in Aldeby to see if we could produce special planters for a Sensory garden, that would be accessible for wheelchair users with varied disabilities. We produced a prototype and 3...
SIR JOHN LEMAN HIGH SCHOOL are supporting BECCLES MEN’S SHED ! We are the chosen ‘local charity’ for their RAG week and they came to visit us recently. Everyone was so impressed with their interest in our activities and members – they even made a film about us !...
BECCLES CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON This was our first year at this event and it was a great success. The weather was kind to us, everyone loved the atmosphere, and people visited to see our unusual wares. The wooden trees were soon sold and the members...
ABBEYFIELD HOUSE VISIT Four of our members recently visited this local residential home and met three of the gentlemen residents. They were made very welcome with tea and cakes and swapped a few interesting stories. They thoroughly enjoyed hearing about our...
BECCLES LIBRARY CRAFT FAIR We were at the Library displaying our 'crafts' and our members were enjoying themselves again (they pretend it's hard work!) There was a selection of their indoor smaller items on display - I think the favourite of the day was 'Tom's...
